Unlike stop errors, runtime errors don't typically cause Windows or a program to stop working. Since the installer expired before I got a chance to discover this, I can't find out if installing with compatibility enabled would have helped. As Lee C alluded to in Comment #35, you get a VC++ Runtime Error upon launch and the compatibility modes don't seem to work. Sadly, this game appears to be non-functional on Windows 8 (64-bit).
